A Quick Look at How We Approach Our Process

Great design is so much more than just pretty fabrics, paint colours, and beautifully styled spaces. When it comes to working in our client’s homes, getting to know our clients is essential in helping them bring their vision to life. While each project is unique, there are some key questions we always like to ask before we start the designing process.

How would you describe your style?

Being able to really pinpoint your style is easier said than done, but I have found it helps to start going through photos and sources that catch your eye. A common thread begins to reveal itself, you may start to notice that your collection all contain neutral calming tones mixed with pops of a particular colour. Taking a tour of your home I begin to see what you are drawn to and why, this helps to define your unique style. “Light and Airy” can mean one thing to someone and mean something entirely different to another person.

What is the overall goal for your space?

This seems like a very simple question but understanding your intention for the space goes a long way in determining all of the components that go beyond the main function of your space. Asking questions about how you live your day to day life and how you envision. yourself living in this space shapes every decision that is made from the layout of then  furnishings to the materials used. This also helps to eliminate any elements that may not work. If you love to curl up on the sectional with your kids and your dog, easy-care performance fabrics will be the way to go.

What is working for you in your space right now?

It’s very important to take into consideration what you do love about your space, what aspects you want to keep. Whether is the flow of the space or favourite pieces of furniture. It’s important to ensure these are included in the new plans. Maybe you love the flow with the existing furnishings but it’s aesthetics that need refreshing.

What isn’t working for you in your space right now?

I also need to know what is not working for  you. Maybe the new plans needs to include more storage space or you need to have peace and quiet while working from home. Identifying what doesn’t work is also a great way to start the decision process for the project.

What are your main goals for this project?

Prioritizing the elements in your project early on is very  important regardless of budget and timeline. Narrowing down your priorities to what you love most  and what will achieve the best way for your goals to be met in your new space is key in figuring out  where to allocate your budget.
