Tips to Transition Your Home from Winter to Spring!

Although we haven’t fully turned the corner into spring here in Ottawa, we are seeing signs of the new season to come, like fresh greenery and more sunlight.  Today I wanted to share some of the ways you too can transition your space from winter to spring.

Add a Pop of Colour in the Kitchen

Let’s start with one of the spaces you might be spending more time in these days, the kitchen!  Introduce a rug or runner that features bright colours or bold prints.  This will bring new colours into the kitchen that you can play off of with fresh flowers or a new piece of art.

Lighter Prints and Fabrics

Who doesn’t love a new throw pillow?  Swap your wintery plaid and faux fur pillows for lighter linen pillows and soft patterned prints.  You can introduce a new spring colour or opt for textured neutrals that still brighten the space.   Fresh new kitchen linens can breathe fresh new colours into the kitchen.

Enhance Natural Lighting

To fully enjoy the longer, brighter days, make the most of natural lighting in your home.  Hang a mirror on the wall adjacent to the window or across from it.  This will reflect the natural light backing into the space and brighten it up a bit.  Swap out dark lampshades with lighter linen shades to lighten up your space.

Go Green

Bring the great outdoors inside!  Fresh (or faux) plants are a simple way to liven up any space and brighten your day.  They can easily enhance a console table, mantel or coffee table.  Neutral pots and vases are great because you easily transition between the spaces and seasons.  Some fresh tulips in a pretty vase are always a treat during the spring season!  Fresh herbs in the kitchen are always so nice to have on hand.
