Ways to Cozy Up Your Home for the Winter
I don’t know about you, but this year as the days get shorter and shorter it has become even more important to me to get our home ready for this coming winter during the pandemic. This year I am taking the approach a step further. Not only to make my home appear and feel cozy but to also function in a way that allows for more fun times together at home. It can be so easy to fall into what I call the Tech Binging Hole, so this year I am creating alternative ways to spend time at home together and have that cozy feel we crave all winter long. I hope this article will inspire you to do the same.
1. Move your furniture around: One of my favourite things to do is to arrange my furniture to focus on the fireplace which creates a cozier feel. The simple task of redoing your furniture arrangement can have a major impact on how warm your home feels and how you spend time together.
2. Designate a Spot for Hobbies and Games: Use this area to tackle a 1000 piece puzzle, lego building or nightly game nights with your family.
3. Lights & Candles: One of my favourite ways to add instant warmth is through the use of candles. If you are in a household with small children or pets you can also use battery operated lights that look realistic. Creating vignettes with candles can really change the mood of your home. Dimmer switches can make a really big difference as well.
4. Pillows & Throws: Throws are essential in the winter months to keep warm. Keeping them close at hand and draped over the sofa can go a long way in adding warmth through texture. Let’s face it, there is nothing better than being wrapped up in a cozy blanket sipping a hot beverage! With cable knit, faux fur, fleece and varieties of wool, you can’t go wrong with a great mix of throws and pillows.
5. Keep things organized: The least glamorous task but it has been proven that we feel calmer in organized, clean spaces so try to keep clutter at bay. Since we are likely to be indoors more frequently this year, an organized space makes it easier to focus on the things we want to do with our time.
